Bridgerton, your next obsession

I’ll start off by saying that I’ve not read the books to which the show is based off of. After checking out the trailer Netflix released about a month ago, I had a feeling that this show was tailored specifically for me. Romance in the 1800s? Sign me up.

Bridgerton, is a show that closely follows our protagonists, the Bridgerton family. It’s the season for young Daphne Bridgerton to find a suitor, and the pressure is on. She gets a disappointing offer from an older man to which she has no interest in whatsoever. She strikes a deal with the very handsome Duke of Hastings, where they will pretend to have fallen madly in love, so that he can be left alone by the mothers looking to marry off their daughters to him, and so that every other guy can fight to compete for Daphne. A win win for both. Drama and fun ensues. The two leads played by Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page are absolutely mesmerizing. They have so much charisma and chemistry it will melt your screen.

I also have to point out one other thing. The music is fantastic!!! In the very first episode there is a wonderful violin orchestral of Thank U Next by Ariana Grande that completely won my heart right then and there. Major props to Vitamin String Quartet who does the great orchestral versions of these modern songs that fits right into the setting. I’m kinda obsessed now.

So, all in all, if you’re looking for a bit of upbeat escapism mixed with a love story, then this is what you’re looking for! I cannot wait for more and I’m sad that I powered through all 8 episodes in a hurry.

Bridgerton is now out and streaming on Netflix worldwide.

      1. Yes I hope so too. I read that every book follows a different Bridgerton, and that the creator of the show plans on doing a different character to focus on per season.
