A Quiet Place Part II was one of my most anticipated horror movies this year after I tremendously enjoyed the first movie. The experience was different to any other movie I had seen in theaters. There are very few movies that can make you feel so on edge and exhilarated all throughout its run time, and part two of this movie series does not disappoint. *Minor spoilers ahead*
I know most people bat their eyelashes whenever they hear of a sequel coming out to an otherwise successful film. I will tell you right now, this is a worthy successor. The movie isn’t a carbon copy of the first, which is a great thing. They used the elements from the first movie that worked, and added more story and more background information to the events set in this world. We get tons of new information on what the creatures are and where they came from, and we also learn more about their weaknesses. These are actual points I was most looking forward to, and I’m so glad it was addressed. This movie also did keep the same feel of the first. It’s very intense all throughout and keeps you at the edge of your seat. In my opinion, this is horror done right.

Also, I have to point out how great the acting is from everyone involved. Emily Blunt returns as Evelyn, the main protagonist whose trying to survive this world alongside her kids, played by Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds. A new addition to this cast is Cillian Murphy, who is always fantastic in everything, so no doubt fits well into this role. Everyone’s timing is great, and their acting is always believable which makes the stakes of what’s happening all the more real. For me, this is especially essential for this type of horror movie. It wants to be taken seriously and we absolutely do!
The one major con in this movie in my opinion is that it was too short, so the flow of the movie seemed a bit rushed. The movie clocks in to about an hour and a half. I feel like an additional 20 minutes would’ve added a bit more padding and breathing room into the storytelling. Nothing major, just something I think would’ve made it smoother. I think director John Krasinski definitely has a good eye for horror movies and look forward to any future projects.
If you liked the first movie for A Quiet Place, then there’s no doubt in my mind that you’d enjoy part 2 as well. They took everything that made the first one successful and used it in part 2, while adding more to the story. Watching this movie was very rewarding and it gave me the same feeling I had when watching the first one, so surely they did a great job. This is horror at its best.
A Quiet Place Part II is now streaming on Paramount+
