Some big changes are coming to your Animal Crossing island. Nintendo announced in their Direct today that players can look forward to many (and I mean many) new updates coming November 5, 2021. Dust off your Switches, gamers. Here’s what you can look forward to next month on New Horizons.
- Brewster/The Roose update. Players can enjoy a hot cup of coffee by themselves, with friends or invite a character via the amiibo portal using amiibo collectibles or cards
- Cap’n is coming. He takes you to a mysterious Island covered in vines (you can collect these vines)
- Harv’s Island is getting a makeover, including a plaza with shops including customizable furniture and Katrina the Fortune Teller
- New hairstyles
- Group stretching. A cassette player is outside the island service center where you can gather with residents to do some exercising together
- Island ordinances. You can give your island personality by choosing the type of island it is (early bird, night owl, etc)
- More house exteriors
- More storage space (three new expansions)
- New Nook Miles Points rewards
- Cooking recipes DIY
- Plant vegetables
- Pro decorating license allows ceiling decorations
- Accent walls (single pattern)
- More bridges/inclines (8 -> 10)
- 9 more fence types
- Pro camera update (handheld mode and tripod mode)
- Can now wear patterns or use as accent in home
- 11 new reactions
- Island Life 101 app (gives tips)
- Storage shed outside home
- ABD machine outside Nook’s Cranny
- 12 new K.K. Slider songs
- Music boxes
- Gyroids (plant and water them to grow overnight. Can be customized)
- Nook’s Cranny will have new items (ceiling decorations)
- Permanently place ladders on island
- Navigate tight spaces at home
- Residents can invite you over to their home or come over to yours
- This free update will launch November 5, 2021 as the last major free update for the game
As well as a free update, there will also be paid DLC available to those with a Nintendo Online Membership account. The content for the DLC is as follows.
- Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise
- You can become a resort developer and design vacation homes
- Design facilities with empty buildings on the island (school, cafe, etc)
- Happy Home Network App lets you check in on residents you designed homes for as well as showcase them to other players
- Partition walls can be used in your island home
- Suggest home remodels for residents on your island
- DLC launches November 5, 2021. Preorders begin on October 29 in the Nintendo eshop
- 48 new amiibo cards
Players should also note that as of this time, you can only purchase the DLC for the game as a bundle that’s part of the expansion pack for the Online Membership. It’s pricey especially if you’re only looking for just the membership and the DLC for Animal Crossing as a part of the individual membership plan. The DLC can also ONLY be played with an active membership at all times.

You can look forward to this massive update November 5, 2021.
