The Cast of Netflix’s Live Adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Is FIRE (Joke Intended)

If you’re a long time fan of the 2005 Nickelodeon cartoon “Avatar: The Last Airbender” then you may (or may not) be delighted to hear of the live adaptation coming to Netflix in the near future. While some of us still have trust issues from the atrocious live action movie that came out in 2010 directed by M. Night Shyamalan, as a huge fan of the series, the cast for this particular live action looks promising (the big question being who will play the Cabbage Merchant). Whereas the film couldn’t even get the casting right as well as everything else, Netflix seems to be hitting all the right notes thus far casting wise.

  • Gordon Cormier – Aang
  • Kiawentiio – Katara
  • Ian Ousley – Sokka
  • Dallas Liu – Zuko
  • Paul Sun-Hyung Lee – Uncle Iroh
  • Daniel Dae Kim – Fire Lord Ozai
  • Elizabeth Yu – Azula
  • Yvonne Chapman – Avatar Kiyoshi
  • Ken Leung – General Zhao
  • Casey Camp-Horinel – Gran Gran
  • Lim Kay Siu – Monk Gyatso
  • Maria Zhang – Suki
  • Tamlyn Tomita – Yukari

For those of you not familiar with the series, Avatar: The Last Airbender is the story of a young boy who wields the power of all four elements (earth, air, fire and water). Aang is the Avatar, frozen in ice for over 100 years as war waged against the fire nation. He’s discovered by southern water tribe’s Katara and Sokka. Katara is the sole Water bender of her tribe, and together with her brother and Aang they travel across the nations as they help Aang learn to control the other elements so he can fulfill his destiny as the Avatar and restore balance to the world again.

It’ll be interesting to see how they portray the characters and whether or not the plot will stay true to the original cartoon series. The casting does seem to be spot on so far and many fans have high hopes for this live action take on the beloved series. Will it live up to fan’s expectations? Only time will tell.
