In a cinematic universe filled with heroes, anti-heroes, and mutants, one duo stands out as the epitome of chaos and unpredictability: Deadpool and Wolverine. As rumors swirl and anticipation builds for their much-anticipated team-up film, fans are brimming with excitement and speculation about the direction this unconventional partnership will take, and how this will play into the bigger MCU picture. The new ad that was released during the Super Bowl last night teases us with just a little bit of Deadpool’s upcoming adventure, while also providing some hype on Disney’s first and official R rated Marvel film. The question is, will it be enough?
With most film fans and comic book movie lovers alike experiencing super hero fatigue, this film promises to inject a much-needed dose of fun and irreverence while also offering a saving grace for the MCU. With this much weight and importance riding on it’s shoulders, after back to back critical and box office failures from other MCU projects, Deadpool and Wolverine is hopefully going to clean things up. Here’s a wild theory on what I think we can expect from the Deadpool and Wolverine movie just basing it off of the first trailer:
The film kicks off with Deadpool (played with unparalleled charm and wit by Ryan Reynolds) finding himself being pulled into a parallel dimension by the TVA (as seen on the Disney+ series Loki). Sensing an opportunity of urgency and the call for action, Deadpool sets out to clean up the MCU while bumping into his soon to be friend, the reluctant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman reprising his iconic role). Together, they join together on a mission to save the MCU from an otherworldly threat, or maybe even itself. I’m kind of hoping they take a bit of inspiration from the comic book Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. I think something like this on the big screen is so bonkers and wacky, it kind of makes sense to adapt it during a time where arguably, the MCU has been on a steady decline after Avengers Endgame.
We’ll undoubtedly get more fourth wall breaks, as we dive deep into meta madness. True to Deadpool’s nature, the film is going to be packed with meta humor and self-referential jokes, poking fun at everything from superhero tropes to the actors’ previous roles. Deadpool breaks the fourth wall with reckless abandon, frequently addressing the audience and even engaging in witty commentary on the state of the MCU.
In the end, my biggest hope is that the Deadpool and Wolverine movie serves as a beacon of hope for the MCU, injecting new energy and excitement into the franchise and the MCU as a whole, while also paving the way for future adventures. With its winning combination of humor, heart, and sheer unpredictability, this film is poised to become a fan favorite and a much-needed savior for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So buckle up, fellow fans, because Deadpool and Wolverine are about to take us on the wildest ride of our lives.
