Resident Evil Infinite Darkness, Should You Skip It?

I want to start off by saying this, I am a huge fan of the Resident Evil video game franchise. I feel like Capcom is doing great things with it at the moment and cannot wait for more game based content, (fingers crossed for a RE4 remake). On the movie side of things, I can tell you right now, it was never really a thing I liked, but to be fair, I’ve yet to find any other movie based game that I did enjoy. With that being said, I know that there is a movie reboot in the works, and that Netflix will also being doing a live action series with the Wesker’s as the story’s main focus. So where does this show stand amidst all of this? I hate to say this, but…..skip it. *No spoilers don’t worry*

To put it simply, the story is boring and uninteresting. For me, this entire series felt longer than it actually was and each episode was roughly 25 mins. Very flat, not even my favorite characters from the series could save this for me. I think what it comes down to at least for me, is that the stories from the games are far more interesting and gripping. I’m also a huge fan of the horror element of those too. None of these aspects were found here. I also feel like the fan favorite characters were cheaply used in this show, since they weren’t given much to do.

The animation for the most part was ranging from excellent to clunky in some parts. I think the movements especially from the zombies were a little off. So it varies. I also like Leon’s character design. I’m a Leon fangirl what can I say? Aside from that, I cannot recommend this for anyone really. If you aren’t a fan of the Resident Evil series then this sure as hell won’t win you over, and if you ARE a fan of the series, then this will drive you far away.

Resident Evil Infinite Darkness will be streaming globally on Netflix on July 8th, 2021.
